General Medicine RMO Training Experience QIP

Opportunity

North Shore Hospital Rates of RMO (continuity clerking post take August, 2018)

Next Steps

  • DCT, DPE and SMO buy in.
  • Disseminate results to Medical Leadership Team, Department of Medicine and TransforMED.
  • Explore possible interventions.
  • Complete PDSA cycle following interventions.

Aim

To obtain baseline data on:

  • RMO continuity between admission clerking and post take events.
  • Distribution and rates of admission clerking amongst RMOs.
  • Comparison of ADU and Ward roles.

Conclusions

Aim met with baseline data:

  • Uneven distribution of admission clerking duties ADU > Ward and Reg > HO.
  • Low rates of clerking > post take continuity.
  • Significant number of clerking outcomes where continuity might have been achieved in current system, but unfortunately was not.
  • Low rates of RMO satisfaction in comparison to other Auckland Region DHBs.
  • Very low satisfaction for ADU Registrar positions.

Intervention

To be determined following dissemination of baseline data to Medical Leadership Team and General Medicine Service.
