Medical Education Fellows winners and finalists at Singhealth Duke-Nus Education Conference

Congratulations to our Pharmacy team and the Clinical and Education Training Unit (CETU) who have received recognition at the SingHealth Duke-NUS Education Conference in Singapore. This international conference brings together the best in healthcare education and training.

Out of several hundred submissions for the conference’s abstract competition, CETU Waitemata's submissions were all selected as finalists for the poster and presentation awards. Abstracts were submitted by Avril Lee (Improvement Advisor, Pharmacy) and Medical Education Fellows Dr Vani Chandran and Dr Leah Pointon.

Vani Chandra + Avril Lee Singhealth Presentation Award

Avril Lee won the best oral presentation award for her work in the pharmacy buddy system that helps international medical graduates settle in at Waitemata DHB. A second oral presentation delivered by Avril and Vani Chandran, showcasing pharmacy training in our transition program for Trainee Interns, was first-runner up in the same category.

"Considering that there were between 800-1000 abstract submissions from around the world, it is fantastic to see Avril, Vani and Leah earn such recognition for their work," says Director of Clinical Training Dr Ian Wallace.

"It not only promotes our work here at Waitemata DHB but shows that we are leaders in many areas of medical education."

This work has the support of the University of Auckland’s School of Medicine and results from the vision for excellence led by Naomi Heap, Manager of CETU.
